A Holistic Approach to Aesthetic Wellness

At the heart of Nix & Tee is a shared passion for empowering individuals to discover their beauty and inner strength through personalised aesthetic treatments. Founded by Nicolette (“Nix”) and Turid (“Tee”), both with extensive healthcare backgrounds, the clinic has become a sanctuary for those seeking more than just physical enhancement—it's a space that promotes beauty, healing and overall well-being.

Nicolette, also known as “Nix,” qualified as a registered nurse from the Mpumalanga College of Nursing and further specialised in midwifery, psychiatry, and community health with an interest in trauma. In 2005, she partnered with a medical doctor to establish one of the first medical aesthetics practices in South Africa. Her role in the aesthetic industry expanded over time as she became a business partner in the practice and later sold her shares to explore other opportunities. After working with a medical devices company specialising in Cardiology, Physio, and Aesthetic Capital Equipment, Nicolette joined Galderma’s Aesthetic and Corrective division. Her expertise in helping doctors manage and grow aesthetic practices became a cornerstone of her approach at Nix & Tee.

Turid, known as “Tee,” followed a similar path in nursing, specialising in Intensive Care after qualifying as a registered nurse at Johannesburg Hospital. Her career then took her into the pharmaceutical industry, where she worked as a medical representative. Turid joined Galderma South Africa in 1994, rising to marketing manager for dermatology products. In 2012, she pioneered the Aesthetic and Corrective division at Galderma South Africa, where she played a pivotal role in building the company’s reputation within the aesthetics industry.

Together, their shared expertise and experiences laid the foundation for Nix & Tee. Their work across multiple sectors—public, private, aesthetic, and wellness—has given them a unique perspective on the mental, physical, and emotional paths people navigate in their search for self-improvement and well-being.

DRIVEN BY PASSION

Nicolette and Turid are both passionate about the transformative power of aesthetic medicine. Their careers have allowed them to witness firsthand the profound effect that professionally administered and tailored aesthetic treatments can have on a person’s sense of self-worth and confidence. They believe that aesthetic medicine isn’t just about outward appearance— it’s about helping individuals connect with their inner strength and beauty, and this is where the vision for Nix & Tee was born – a space where this holistic approach to beauty and wellbeing could flourish.

The desire was also to create an environment where clients feel seen, heard, and understood, and are treated with care and compassion, allowing them to explore and address their perceived imperfections in a safe, non-judgmental environment.

THE EXPERIENCE

The clinic, based in Dainfern’s Mulberry Hill Office Park for five years before moving to Sandhurst Eye Centre, is designed to evoke a sense of calm and tranquillity. The interior décor balances luxury with comfort, blending modern aesthetics with a medical atmosphere that helps clients feel at ease and nurtured.

Nix & Tee offers a wide range of services that focus on more than just physical enhancement. The clinic places a strong emphasis on understanding clients’ mental and emotional well-being alongside their physical needs. Their holistic approach integrates advanced aesthetic treatments with wellness therapies, ensuring that every treatment is customised to meet the individual’s unique goals and lifestyle.

BUILDING STRONG RELATIONSHIPS

Consultation is key, whereby Nicolette and Turid take the time to truly listen to their clients, understanding their concerns, fears, and aspirations. This personalised approach allows them to craft effective treatment programmes tailored to each individual’s unique needs.

By collaborating with a trusted network of doctors and specialists, they also ensure clients receive comprehensive care, combining the strengths of both aesthetic and medical expertise. This integrated approach ensures optimal results and fosters long-term relationships built on trust.

EVOLVING WITH CLIENT NEEDS

Over the past six years, Nix & Tee has seen significant changes in its practice, many of which reflect broader shifts in the aesthetics industry. In the early days, aesthetic treatments often focused purely on physical changes, but today, there is a growing recognition of the mind-body-spirit connection. Nicolette and Turid have seen this shift in their clients, who now seek more holistic approaches to beauty, with an emphasis on self-care and emotional well-being.

The clinic has adapted to these changes by refining its consultation process to prioritize individualized care. Clients are no longer just looking for beauty treatments—they want to embark on a personal journey that makes them feel empowered and supported. In response, Nix & Tee has expanded its services and included specialists from various fields, to create a more inclusive, emotionally supportive environment where clients feel comfortable exploring both their inner and outer beauty.

GAME CHANGERS

Several key elements have been game-changers for Nix & Tee. First, their in-depth, personalised consultations that go beyond surface-level concerns have set them apart, ensuring that each client receives tailored care. Second, the clinic’s warm and inviting environment fosters an atmosphere of trust and relaxation, allowing clients to feel comfortable and safe. Lastly, by building long-term relationships with their clients and offering continuous support and follow-up, Nicolette and Turid have created a strong sense of loyalty and connection within their community.

FUTURE PLANS

Nix & Tee is focused on growth while maintaining its core values. Over the next 5 to 10 years, Nicolette and Turid plan to expand wellness offerings such as mindfulness, stress management, and nutrition, and open additional locations. They also aim to establish an Aesthetic Training Academy in South Africa to mentor the next generation of practitioners and foster a community through workshops, events, and retreats.

Nix & Tee aspires to be recognized as an industry thought leader, continuously engaged in research, training, and collaboration to offer the most innovative treatments. Their vision is to become a trusted destination for aesthetics and wellness, where beauty, healing, and empowerment come together for every client.

LESSONS LEARNED

Over the years, Nicolette and Turid have learned many valuable lessons that have not only shaped their approach but also deepened their understanding of what truly matters in aesthetics and wellness. Here is what they have learnt:

Beauty extends beyond the physical: While aesthetic treatments can enhance outward appearance, true transformation happens when clients feel empowered from within. This understanding has led us to approach treatments holistically, integrating physical, mental, and emotional well-being into our care.

Listening is key: Every individual is unique, and what works for one client may not work for another. Over the years, we’ve realised the importance of truly listening to our clients—not just to understand their aesthetic goals but also to hear their concerns, fears, and aspirations. Building this deeper connection allows us to provide more personalised, effective, and meaningful treatments.

The importance of adaptability: The aesthetic and wellness industry is constantly evolving, with new treatments, technologies, and trends emerging regularly. One crucial lesson we've learned is the importance of staying adaptable. This means embracing new innovations while staying true to our core values. We’ve discovered that growth comes from being open to change and continuously refining our practice to offer the best for our clients.

Building trust: Foundational trust is the cornerstone of our practice. We’ve learned that it takes time, transparency, and consistent care to build trust with our clients. They entrust us with their appearance, health, and confidence, and we take that responsibility seriously. Building strong, lasting relationships with our clients is at the heart of what we do, and it’s a key factor in long-term success.

Small details make a big difference: Attention to detail is crucial in delivering exceptional results. Whether it's in the precision of a treatment or the ambiance of our clinic, we’ve learned that the small touches often leave the most lasting impressions. From in-depth consultations to tailored aftercare, focusing on details ensures that clients feel valued and cared for every step of the way.

Emotional healing is as important as physical: Many clients come to us with not only physical concerns, but also emotional ones tied to self-esteem and body image. We’ve learned that helping clients through their emotional healing is just as important as the physical results. By addressing both, we’ve seen our clients experience deeper, more transformative outcomes that last beyond the treatment room.

Teamwork drives success: A successful practice isn’t built by one person—it’s the result of a dedicated, passionate, and cohesive team. We’ve learned that collaboration among our team, ongoing education, and fostering a positive work environment leads to better outcomes for our clients and a more enriching experience for everyone involved.

Adapt to client expectations: Clients’ expectations and industry trends evolve over time, and we’ve learned to be proactive in understanding these shifts. Whether it's responding to a demand for more natural results or incorporating the latest skincare technology, we’ve grown by adapting to our clients' changing needs and expectations.

Compassion: We’ve learned that compassion— whether in the form of a kind word, a patient ear, or genuine empathy—can have an enormous impact on our clients’ overall experience. The world of aesthetics can sometimes feel intimidating, but by offering a nurturing and supportive environment, we’ve seen clients leave not only looking their best but feeling deeply cared for.

Navigating Menopausal Skin
Menopause – a time of wisdom and independence, but for our patients it is often synonymous with collagen loss, increased wrinkling, and those perplexing bruises that suddenly appear on the forearms. The exit of oestrogen triggers a cascade of changes, with skin taking the hardest hit. In clinic, we see this in the form of sagging, thinning, and an increase in visible vascular changes like telangiectasias. For menopausal skin, simply recommending a moisturiser isn’t enough. A more integrative approach is essential.
